Plastic pants or panties are undergarments that are made of plastic, vinyl, or traditional rubber. They are usually worn over a diaper to disallow the penetration of any liquid or solid waste that might leak through ordinary fabric. Plastic pants have replaced rubber pants that earlier came out in the market. They are generally preferred over the latter because they are less expensive and yet more comfortable to wear.

Plastic pants come in a wide variety of sizes and are available for infants, children, and even adults. Here are the different types of plastic pants as categorized by textile manufacturers.

Types of Plastic Pants according to Style

Pull-on plastic pants – These pants are worn like typical briefs, panties, shorts, and pants. They are the more preferred style for plastic pants because they are easy to wear. Most pull-on plastic pants feature garter openings for a secure and comfortable fit. Most models are designed for close fitting, while others feature a full cut with a wide crotch that allows accommodation of bulky diapers both for babies and adults. They come in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and designs.

Snap-on plastic pants – These pants resemble like diapers. They are designed with a snap-on opening and closure system, allowing easier accessibility than pull-on pants. They are commonly used on nursing homes and by the older consumers that find it difficult to pull regular pants on. The snap-on design of these pants allow secure and close fitting to wearers. They come in a wide variety of sizes, colors, and designs.

Types of Plastic Pants according to Lining

Terry lined plastic pants – These pants are designed with a lining that is usually made of a fabric with pile-forming loops, more commonly known as terry cloth. They are generally absorbent and provide dryness even with overnight use.

Flannel lined plastic pants – These pants are designed with a lining of a flannel cloth. They are usually more comfortable than terry lined pants as they provide coolness and trap less heat. However, they allow water and sweat penetration.

When choosing a pair of plastic pants, pick one that offers enough comfort. As it is, a pair of plastic pants is already quite uncomfortable because it traps more heat than regular cotton-made garments. To alleviate this problem, make sure you get the right size, considering primarily the waist and the crotch size.
